2021 Update

The owner of Distinctly Africa Manyeleti, Leon, had a dispute with the community (I think the chief was too greedy) and so Leon never reopened after the plandemic in 2020 and he has relocated to Camp Sabali in South Luangwa in Zambia.

(Look what 'the community' allowed to happen to Bongani Mountain Lodge!)

Manyeleti Main Camp is still operational.

About Distinctly Africa Manyeleti

This unique camp is well designed for the ultimate African Safari; the communal structures made of wood and canvas give you a true African bush experience and feel.  The main area is where guests gather to enjoy morning coffee, breakfast, high tea, and delicious dinners.

The camp is run by Leon and his wonderful team and they will provide you with an unforgettable stay.

Food & Drink

There are three areas where meals are served; an open-air area in the middle of the Distinctly Africa Manyeleti camp, an open air boma and under a canvas tented dining area. The boma area has a fire-pit and is the ideal place to relax after your game drive while chatting with other guests over a cold beer or glass of wine.

All of our breakfasts and High teas are served under the canvas area where bushbuck come strolling past.

Early morning tea and coffee with rusks are served before going out on game drive.

During early morning game drives, you will have a coffee/tea stop where a small snack in the form of muffins, croissants or biscuits and a coffee is provided.

We enjoyed our Amarula coffees!

On returning to camp we were welcomed by the smells of breakfast cooking.

The buffet breakfast of cereal, fresh fruit and yoghurt, cold meats and cheeses, then you will be served a hot cooked breakfast, which changes each day;

Eggs Benedict with a corn fritter, scrambled eggs, sausage with chickpea in a tomato gravy served with seed toast.

Corn fritter
Bacon nachos

High tea is served just before going out on your afternoon game drive, between 15h30 – 16h00.

Each day was something different; Biltong Nachos, salad, mini kebabs, fresh fruit, hot baked cakes, delicious carrot cake and fruit juice or ice-cold flavoured water.

During game drives you will have a drinks/sunset stop where you will be served a small snack of biltong, nuts, dried fruit or dry-wors and chips with a drink of your choice.

Dinner is served at around 19h00, which gives you time to freshen up or have a drink in the boma, around the fire-pit.

All our meals were great, I loved the soups and freshly baked bread rolls; we had corn soup and fresh rolls, followed by Beef stew and salad, then a Panna cotta dessert.

Carrot and potato soup with fresh bread rolls, chicken curry and rice, followed by a tasty chocolate pudding with homemade ice-cream.

Boma braai- lovely mushroom soup…yes with freshly baked rolls, corn on the cob, pap and sheba sauce, boerewors (sausage), steak and lamp chops, followed by Malva pudding and custard.

The bar area serves drinks to the boma area or the covered canvas tent area.

Vegans and Vegetarians are catered for, but you need to let them know when you make your booking. We had a group of nine guests from the USA with us, which included a few Vegans and vegetarians and we did not hear one complaint from them – they loved the food.

Accommodation at Distinctly Africa Manyeleti

The tastefully decorated chalets are set among large trees, in the grounds of the main Manyeleti camp.

Each chalet has an en-suite bathroom with a shower, shampoo and soap, linen, electrical plug points, a small kitchenet, fridge, hotplate with a mini oven, tea and coffee facilities and a small veranda.

The chalets are clean and neat, and the air-conditioner is most welcome during the hot African summers.

Activities at Distinctly Africa Manyeleti

You can relax at the swimming pool in the main camp or read a book on your chalet veranda.

But for most guests, the game drives were the highlight.

We had six (actually seven) fantastic game drive with our field guide Mpho and tracker Reply.

We say seven, because we had another drive straight after breakfast the one day – you can read more about this and our other drives on our web-page on Mpho Malapane and also on our Distinctly Africa Manyeleti trip report page.

"It's 768 pages of the most amazing information. It consists of, well, everything really. Photography info...area info...hidden roads..special places....what they have seen almost road by road.
