Golden-light is what many wildlife photographers are looking for, as the early morning or late afternoon front-light makes any subject look good.

What do you do, however, when the sun is behind your subject and you cannot get around to the other side? Well, you try and shoot a silhouette of course! Combined with the right subject and background, silhouette images can be really impressive.

If you struggle to find and capture good nature and wildlife silhouettes on your safaris then this eBook is for you!

We have been visiting the Kruger Park for more than twenty years and capturing eye-catching silhouettes can be challenging! In this eBook we provide all our tips and techniques on how to best capture striking silhouettes of trees, mammals, birds and even insects.

The majority of these silhouette photographs were captured on self-drive safaris, on normal tourist roads, when we were on our vacations, which are anything from a few days over a long weekend, to annual holidays of 14-17 days duration. We also captured some of the images from inside the camps and lodges.

"...the majority of images are really impressive, each chosen for a practical reason, sometimes annotated to stress a point.

The authors clearly know what they are doing. For decades they have mapped their sightings, and in explaining how they achieved their images, they’re sharing invaluable tips on understanding wildlife behavior, reading the signs and getting yourself in the best position for the shot.
There is a phenomenal wealth of information here; real substance."

Sometimes you don't want a black silhouette but you also don't want a white, blown-out sky, so here you get a bit of detail in the subject plus nice color in the sky. We usually spot meter off the background to get a silhouette but here we used dynamic range to evenly expose for the whole image as the contrast wasn't that great between the subject and background.

"This is an indispensable guide to getting the best out of Kruger, camera in hand or not!”
