If you struggle to find lions and other big cats on your safaris or you feel your images are not impressive, then this eBook is for you! We have been visiting the Kruger Park for more than twenty years and in that time we and our co-author, Trevor Barnett, have had over 400 lion sightings on our self-drive safaris and in this eBook, we provide all our tips on how to find these apex predators and then how to best photograph them.

"...the majority of images are really impressive, each chosen for a practical reason, sometimes annotated to stress a point.

The authors clearly know what they are doing. For decades they have mapped their sightings, and in explaining how they achieved their images, they’re sharing invaluable tips on understanding wildlife behavior, reading the signs and getting yourself in the best position for the shot.
There is a phenomenal wealth of information here; real substance."

Lioness leaping up to catch a vulture in Kruger ParkThe shot we missed. We were watching a pride of lions on a giraffe kill on the S86 N'waswisonto loop and the cubs were on the carcass and the adults were lying to the side with vultures swooping in and out. Where to focus? We focused on the cubs feeding and so missed the lioness leaping into the air to try and catch one of the vultures!

Lions tend to be the animal most visitors want to see. Hearing a lion roar is an unforgettable experience - the roar is so powerful that it can be heard up to five kilometers away! Lions have always been associated with leadership and royalty (the Lion of Judah!) and it's estimated that there are around 2000 lions in the Kruger National Park.

Lions are known to sleep for up to 18 hours each day and are active mostly at night. We have, however, seen lions hunting at midday so always expect the unexpected in the Park!
