Bateleur vs Ostrich

Nice day for a Bath

Nice day for a Bath

We were driving back to Mata Mata when we stopped to take some photos of an Ostrich bathing in one of the water holes. As I was snapping the photo, a Bateleur came in for a landing. Wish I could say I staged it, but sadly it was pure luck. Scared the Ostrich and some near by Oryx. After which the Ostrich scared the Bateleur off. Now for the untrue story - the Bateleur attacked the Ostrich coming in from a high altitude and the Ostrich was barely able to escape with its life. The second one sounds more exciting so lets use that one. In the states we would call that a fish story!

I'm sure the ostrich would win if the two birds did have an altercation!

"It's 768 pages of the most amazing information. It consists of, well, everything really. Photography info...area info...hidden roads..special places....what they have seen almost road by road. Where to stay just outside the Park...camp information. It takes quite a lot to impress me but I really feel that this book, which was 7 years in the making, is exceptional."            - Janey Coetzee, founder of CAROK (Camps and Roads of Kruger)  South Africa
