Bakgatla is a large fenced camp which lies at the foot of a mountain and is situated to the north east side of the park - bordering the Pilanesberg Game Reserve.
We have been visiting the resort for many years and it's people like Queenie, the front office supervisor, that makes sure we keep coming back. She is always smiling and most helpful!
The 60 colonial-styled self catering chalets each sleep a max of 6 people - a double bed in main bedroom and 3 single beds in loft, with a sleeper couch in the lounge.
Only some chalets have on-suite bathrooms, but all chalets have a fully equipped kitchen with a braai area leading off a private patio. We have enjoyed many braais under the stars, while sipping our wine and listening to the night life.
Most of the chalets do not have a view, but there are a few chalets which border the park fence and have a view of the mountain.
Bakgatla Resort has 5 Safari tents and a fairly large camping site near the restaurant.
If you are not in the mood to cook then try the large newly renovated restaurant, which lies to the south of the swimming pool area.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all served in the restaurant.
WWe have eaten there a good many times and have had some good meals, like our Valentines dinner, but other times the meals have been average.
There is a new chef and on our last stay there (April 2015) the food was very good. We had chicken livers peri peri for starters
and lamb-shank for main course - large tasty servings!
For the outdoor enthusiast, Bakgatla has an Olympic-size swimming pool and playground area, which is well positioned in the centre of the resort, there are self drives or conducted safari game drives, bird watching and exciting excursions like Balloon Safaris, Bush Braais or Bush Breakfasts.
There have been a lot of good sightings of leopard and wild dogs around camp - the wild dogs often run alongside the camp fence or chase their prey into the fence.

"It's 764 pages of the most amazing information. It consists of, well, everything really. Photography info...area info...hidden roads..special places....what they have seen almost road by road. Where to stay just outside the Park...camp information. It takes quite a lot to impress me but I really feel that this book, which was 7 years in the making, is exceptional." - Janey Coetzee, South Africa
