- Charles Lindbergh
1.a) Interview with Arthur Morris - the World’s Premier Bird Photographer
We spent a relaxing 4 days in the Pilanesberg at the beginning of July 2010. We stayed at Bakgatla camp and had some good sightings
Here is the link to the
Pilanesberg Trip Report
2) Etosha Trip Report - September 2010
We had some superb sightings in Etosha during the six days, three at Okaujuejo and three at Halali camps.

Etosha Trip Report
3) Latest News Highlights from the Parks...
• Leopard in public toilet in Etosha - be careful when visiting
'safe, fenced' areas!
• Leopard in Skukuza rest camp
- This is the second leopard that we know of this year to be shot in the Kruger Park because it had wandered into one of the rest camps. Earlier this year a young leopard was also shot in the day visitor's area of Lower Sabie rest camp.
• Fire in Pilanesberg
- a fire, apparently started outside the park, destroyed Bakubung entrance gate. Why is the Pilanesberg so plagued with fires!? Nearly every year there is some adverse publicity with burnt elephants, headlines of '75% of the Pilanesberg burnt by fire' and hides being burnt either because of lightning or staff starting fire-breaks but not monitoring them!
• If you're planning a trip to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park please remember to pack your camera because the unique experiences that you capture could win you both fame and prizes in the
Arid Parks Captured Experiences Competition.
In round two, one of our photographs of a gecko kill was placed third in the reptiles category. As the saying goes, 'you have got to be in it to win it!
Results for round three will be announced this month but you still have a chance to enter round four which closes in January 2011. • Did you know - SANParks has increased the deposit on all bookings from 10% to 33%!
I suppose this has been done because of some people who book and then don't arrive. It would, however, have been nice if SANParks had notified their valuable clients of this event instead of us finding out only when we made our 2011 booking!
4) Interviews with Professional Wildlife Photographers
In addition to the exciting interviews with wildlife photographers
Todd Gustafson
and
Irvine Eidelman
we have a very informative interview with the Publishing Editor of Camera&Image Magazine,
Rob Scott.
5) Building a highway through the Serengeti - what next!?
With all the horrible news about rhino poaching in the Kruger and Pilanesberg we asked, 'can there be any other news affecting animals in the parks?'
Well, the Tanzanian Government is considering building a major
highway through the Serengeti!
If this road goes ahead it may lead to the collapse of the largest remaining migratory system on Earth! Just look at all the problems with the road that goes through Hluluwe-Imfolozi in KZN - cars speeding and killing animals daily.
Since the Kruger Park has allowed people to travel through the park to Mozambique, the number of vehicles in the north has increased dramatically, especially over holidays. The north of the park used to be peaceful but now we have experienced speeding taxis and other vehicles that are using Giriyondo and Pafuri border gates.
The Kruger should do what the Kgalagadi has done - people entering the park must stay for a minimum of two nights - there should be no transit visitors.
If the Serengeti highway does get built they will learn of a new concept -
Road Kill!
