Goliath Heron Fishing

These pictures were taken at the end of September from the Batlako hide in the Pilansberg Nature Reserve. We really got lucky as we were the only people in the hide during the entire period that I took this sequence. When the heron stabbed the Tilapia we thought no way is he going to be able to swallow that big fish - but we underestimated the heron and it went down with great ease!

Nice Sighting
by: Clive

Looking at the first photo I would have said that the heron was going to go hungry! Then to see him swallow such a big fish with such ease - wow!

Big pouch
by: Jenny

That's not a big mouth but a big pouch...wow, I don't know how it got the spikey fish down with out scratching it's throat. Thanks for sharing your pictures Jacqui and Stuart.

"It's 768 pages of the most amazing information. It consists of, well, everything really. Photography info...area info...hidden roads..special places....what they have seen almost road by road. Where to stay just outside the Park...camp information.
