Birds of the Kruger

by Mary Jane Sesto
(Long Beach, Ca. U.S.A.)

Ground Hornbill with Grasshopper

Ground Hornbill with Grasshopper

Ground Hornbill with Grasshopper African Hoopoe Oxpeckers Helmetshrike

What can I say? I just LOVE birds! They are all so beautiful, how could you not love them? There is such a variety in Southern Africa, especially in the Kruger National Park (well over 500 have been recorded), and they are everywhere. The whole KNP is a Birder's Paradise as far as I am concerned, and I sure do wish that I lived closer, because I would be there all the time. Don't get me wrong, I am a lover of all creatures, great and small, and I truly enjoy all the different types of vegetation, especially the beautiful Baobab, Sausage, Fever Trees, and the list can go on and on. Here is a small sample of the Beauties that I have been blessed to see.

Thanks for giving us such a wonderful show of birds!
by: Jennifer

I just love birds and could sit and watch them all day long. I find the hides give me great pleasure because of the number of different birds that come to the hides.

Very nice photos Mary Jane!
by: Mario

Two common and two rare sightings. We see the ground hornbill and oxpeckers on nearly every trip to the Kruger but the Hoopoe and helemet shrike - hardly ever!
